Mechanisms and regulation of Ca²⁺ leakage from the ER

In the resting state of cells, the Ca²⁺ concentration in the ER-lumen is the result of a balance between Ca²⁺ uptake by SERCA and Ca²⁺ leak currents.

Recent studies have proposed that the Sec61 complex contributes to Ca²⁺ leakage. The proposed work aims to elucidate the contribution of the Sec61 complex to Ca²⁺ leakage from ER and, to characterize proteins and mechanisms that are involved in regulation of Ca²⁺ leakage at the level of the Sec61 complex.

Thus, the anticipated results will contribute to our understanding of the Ca²⁺ homeostasis and Ca²⁺-dependent signal transduction.
