Mechanisms and regulation of Ca2+ leakage from the ER
In the resting state of cells, the Ca2+ concentration in the ER-lumen is the result of a balance between Ca2+ uptake by SERCA and Ca2+ leak currents.
Recent studies have proposed that the Sec61 complex contributes to Ca2+ leakage. The proposed work aims to elucidate the contribution of the Sec61 complex to Ca2+ leakage from ER and, to characterize proteins and mechanisms that are involved in regulation of Ca2+ leakage at the level of the Sec61 complex.
Thus, the anticipated results will contribute to our understanding of the Ca2+ homeostasis and Ca2+-dependent signal transduction.
