Hypothalamic Ca²⁺ signals

This project is directed towards understanding the molecular and cellular events that mediate the Ca²⁺ homeostasis in hypothalamic neurons.

We will focus on GnRH (gonadotropin-releasing-hormone) detecting (GnRH-R) neurons in the hypothalamus, which are easily identified using a new mouse model.

This enables us to investigate GnRH-induced Ca²⁺ signals spatially and temporally and to characterize the relevant signal transduction cascade as well as the effect of various neuromodulators on hypothalamic GnRH-R neurons.
