TRPC4-, TRPC5- and TRPC1 channels

We plan to investigate the activation and composition of native TRPC channels (TRPC4, 5 and 1) in mice and their contribution to physiological cellular and organ function.

First, we will study TRPC4 in the hippocampus and its role in calcium influx of pyramidal neurones.

Cellular and subcellular localization and composition of TRPC4 channels will be characterized using antibodies, gain-of-function mutation and gene targeting/knock-in strategies.

We will use cells from mouse and TRPC4-deficient mouse models, which we have generated in a cooperation with M. Freichel (TP A15).
